DDS, FAGD
Hi, I'm Dr. Mike Larsen. After graduating from Snake River High School near Blackfoot and heading out into the world for the next step in life's adventure, I had no idea I would some day have the opportunity of returning to Southeastern Idaho to raise my family. It is great to be back! Dentistry has been a rewarding, challenging, and exciting field to be in. Following great advanced training at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, I spent about eight years addressing the needs of under-served communities while working in a Community Health Center setting.
In 2013 I decided to purchase Apple Tree Dental here in Rexburg, Idaho and have been blessed to come to know so many amazing people in this and surrounding areas. The best part of my job is meeting new people and learning from their unique life experiences!
On July 22, 2023, both Dr. Sessions and Dr. Larsen received the prestigious Fellowship Award (FAGD) from the Academy of General Dentistry — an achievement earned by less than 4% of dentists nationwide. This recognition represents hundreds of hours of advanced continuing education in a wide range of dental disciplines, as well as the successful completion of a rigorous 250-question, four-hour exam. It’s not something easily achieved — and not every dentist who tries will pass.
Even more rare, Dr. Sessions earned the Mastership Award (MAGD) in 2024 — a distinction held by fewer than 2% of dentists across the U.S. and just three actively practicing dentists in the entire state of Idaho. He will officially walk for this honor in July 2025.
Out of approximately 900 dentists practicing in Idaho, only 33 hold the FAGD — and in Rexburg, Dr. Sessions and Dr. Larsen are the only two with this credential. Dr. Larsen is also actively working toward his MAGD.
These awards are more than just titles. They demonstrate a deep commitment to lifelong learning and clinical excellence — ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care backed by the latest research and techniques.

My wife, Marci, and our five kids enjoy reading, hiking, exploring, geocaching, and cheering for BYU sports. I personally enjoy a good game of volleyball or ultimate frisbee, and another fun activity lately is teaching as adjunct faculty on campus at nearby BYU-Idaho. Life is good!
